The 78th Annual Old Fort Days Rodeo - That'll leave a mark!

(Fort Smith, AR) - Since 1933, Fort Smith's Kay Rodgers Park has been home to one of Arkansas' most exciting rodeos. The 2011 Old Fort Days rodeo will feature cowboys from all over the world competing for one of the largest prize purses in Arkansas. This year marks the 78th anniversary of the rodeo and this year's theme is "That'll Leave A Mark", referring to the bumps and bruises contestants will surely endure during the week long event.

Beginning Memorial Day, May 30th and running through Saturday, June 4th, you'll see some of the rankest bulls and broncs in America. Events include Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Bareback Riding, Calf Roping, Barrel Racing, Team Roping and Steer Wrestling. Plus new this year is a pony express relay race and the return of mutton busting!

The festivities officially kickoff with a press event and first ever "Old Fort Days Super Star Contest" on Saturday, May 7th at Cavender's Western Outfitters on Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith, AR. Area hopefuls will have the chance to audition before a panel of judges for a shot at singing the National Anthem during one of the six performances of the Old Fort Days Rodeo. The media is invited to attend at 3pm that day to interview rodeo officials and see the finalists of the Super Star Contest.

On Monday, May 30th at 10a.m., bring the whole family to downtown Fort Smith for the Official Old Fort Days Rodeo Parade. Then later that evening, the 78th Annual Old Fort Days Rodeo officially begins with a spectacular grand entry ceremony into Harper Stadium at 7p.m. The presenting sponsor for the Old Fort Days Rodeo is once again Choctaw Casino.

2008 PRCA Announcer of the Year and 2-time National Finals Rodeo announcer, Boyd Polhamus is back along with nationally recognized NFR soundman Benji Bendele. Returning to the rodeo this year will be funnyman and fan favorite Lecile Harris. Lecile is well known throughout the country as one of the most honored rodeo clowns of all time.

Tuesday and Wednesday are Family Nights. All tickets are only $5.00.

The Super Kids Rodeo, sponsored by Jim Grizzle Tire, will be held at 5p.m. on Thursday, June 2nd. Youngsters with special needs will get the opportunity to experience rodeo events, such as pony rides, roping steer dummies and teeter-totter bull rides. Thursday night will also be recognized as Wrangler National Patriot Night. Any military personal that shows their valid military I.D. will receive one free general admission ticket.

Friday, June 3rd will once again be "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" night. $1.00 from every ticket sold goes to the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House and everyone is encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Even contestants will cowboy up and wear pink.
